My Hair Archetype: From Builder to Protector
An archetype is simply a pattern of habits and decisions that shape how you naturally approach and care for your hair over time.

For a long time, my approach to my hair care reflected The Builder hair archetype. I focused on structure, routine, and long-term growth. I stayed consistent and my habits led to length and strength. It took years for me to reach waist-length hair and that level of growth came from consistency more than anything else.
After experiecing significant heat damage, I realized my routine needed to change. What had once been about building and maintaining became more about protecting and restoring. My goal was no longer growth, but recovery.
Moving Into Protection
Now, I find myself leaning into The Protector hair archetype. I am more mindful of how often I manipulate my hair, the level of tension I allow, and how I maintain moisture and balance. Protective styles have become less about preference and more about necessity. My current season is about restoring strength and creating a healthier foundation.
Sometimes what feels like a setback isn’t a loss, it’s a shift that allows you to rebuild stronger. If you want to go deeper, I’ve created a guide to help you understand your hair pattern, along with a planner to support consistency in your routine.
